Lawn Care Tips

What is Power Raking?

Power Raking is a very effective way to remove thatch, moss, and dead debris that build up on your lawn over time without causing any significant damage.

We highly recommend Power Raking in the early spring before any new growth has begun in your lawn. It's also a great service to combine with overseeding, as it opens the lawn surface so that new seed can get quickly established.

Power raking is also known as an effective means of thickening up bentgrass lawns. The surface stolons are sliced and this process stimulates new growth, thickening your lawn.

Power Raking generally involves using knife-like blades that slice the thatch. It does not cause significant damage and your lawn recovers quickly while maintaining it's thickness.

Contrary to popular belief, Power Raking can be done in either the spring or the fall. If you are Power Raking to remove winter debris it is suggested that you to do it in the spring before the lawn starts growing to avoid hindering the lawn during the vital spring growth.

If you do plan on Power Raking along with overseeding, carrying out these processes in early spring allows the seeds enough time to get settled and established before the hot and dry months arrive.

Or you can also Power Rake and overseed in late summer so that again, you avoid the hot and dry months. Some professionals recommend overseeding in late summer for another reason and that is so that the seeds do not have to compete with the spring germinating weeds.

Power Raking in spring or fall is up to you with very little difference either way.
